LaFayette, N.Y. — Hundreds of cars lined up Sunday morning for the distribution of free hand sanitizer at 1911 Established/Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards.
Cars were backed up on Route 80, all the way to Route 20, at about 9:15 this morning. Customers were allowed one free bottle for each person in the car. It was expected that 10,000 bottles would be handed out between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Because the orchard is used to hosting big events, organizers were confident that they could handle the crowd. The long line moved quickly, and much of the traffic on Route 80 was gone by 10 a.m.
1911 Established converted its distillery entirely to sanitizer production last month. It has supplied the product to first responders, hospital personnel and others, and has distributed it for sale.
Cases of the sanitizer were available at a discounted price. The giveaway was contactless, and only credit cards were accepted for the purchase of additional bottles.
